Speaking with Jeff Bayer this morning about The Great Gatsby in theatres this weekend. Most of us had to read this book in high school or college. Jeff wasn't too impressed with the new one starring Leonardo DeCaprio. In fact, he said it basically made him want to go back and watch the Robert Redford/Mia Farro version. Jeff also said that this movie did NOT ned to be done in 3D. It does nothing to enhance the film. If you're going to see it, don't waste the extra money on 3D.
2 out of 5 stars
Our movie reviewer, Jeff Bayer says the highly anticipated Iron Man 3 was worth the wait. Openin HUGE internationally last week it promises to be this weekends blockbuster. Jeff really liked the film stating that you get a bit mor of Tony Stark in this episode. Gwyneth Paltrow is "given more to do". Jeff says the #-D is good but may be a bit dark toward the end for some viewers. Jeff gives the film 4 out of 5!! Have a great weekend!
TThe weather is going to be nice this weekend but the movie selection will be too. Let's see what Bob Miller Show movie critic Jeff Bayer says about this weekend's fare:
Pain & Gain: Apparently afilm about 3 bodybuilders trying to live the American dream by kidnapping a rich guy. ??? 3 out of 5 stars
The Big Wedding: (not screened for critics in PDX.). Stars Robert Deniro, Dianne Keaton, and Susan Sarandon.
Mud: Matthew McConahey returns to the screen as a guy who lives in a boat stuck in a tree. 3 stars
Arthur Newman: Jeff says its terrible and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. 0 out of 5
This day gets to me emotionally every year. Why? Because on this day 11 years ago I felt every emotion you can feel except joy and laughter. I was on the air when those planes hit the World Trade Center and I tried my best to describe what I was seeing on the TV monitors to my audience. I didn’t really know what I was seeing so I was at a bit of a loss but I tried. Eventually management decided we needed to go wall-to-wall with network coverage so for a few days I was reduced to sitting in the studio listening to bulletins, body counts, and special reports. The more I listened…the angrier I became that someone would perpetrate this madness on the country I love. Then I got the word that I was going back on the air live.
Not since my very first day on the air in 1970 had I felt so nervous and so at loss for words. What in the world could I possibly say that would make any difference? Was it too early to be funny? Yes. Should I release my anger into the microphone? I decided that would be too “preachy”. What I did was try to be empathetic and encouraging. I have no idea whether I pulled it off or not. I heard from many listeners by phone who made me realize they were feeling the same thing I was. Suddenly it was the listeners encouraging ME.
I’ve never forgotten that. We were all in this together. Through tragedy America had shown its mettle. People were hugging each other, calling each other, volunteering to help each other, asking complete strangers what they need, praying at local churches, and holding out their hands to each other in love and friendship.
Its 2012. 11 years have passed. What happened?
Just got back from San Diego. I was impressed with the selection of restaurants and cuisine selection down there. There's a place in La Jolla called "Rupertino's" that serves a killer carne' asada burrito or taco and its only 5 bucks! In California! In tony La Jolla!
I come home to find out that Portland is 10th in the nation for restaurants and yes, we've got a bunch of 'em. I'm betting you could eat at a different Portland restaurant every day for 5 years and still have plenty more to go. We're truly blessed!
